Writing values back to the cubes

It's possible to modify the cube values. This is a valuable asset in collaborative forecasting applications. You can double click on any data cell in the data grid and change it's value. If the following conditions meet:

  • You can change the value of a non aggregated cell. This is when all the dimension values in the cube are a bottom level of the dimension. For example, in a Region->Country->Company dimension, the leaf is the company level.
  • You can change any value in the cube if it is a write enabled cube. The toolbar button is shown.
  • You can save permanently the new values in the cube in write-enabled cubes. You can't write values back to local cubes. Consult your Analysis Manager documentation to enable writing on a cube. When the button is shown, it means that there is data changed in the cube pending to be saved permanently.

The changes you make are kept alive while your cube session lasts, you have to press button or the menu option the File -> Write data to cube to save them permanently, so other users can share your changes or the next time they use the cube.

The following dialog appears:

where you can choose:

  • Save: save the changes in the cube.
  • Cancel: does not save the changes and discards them.
  • Close: Closes the dialog without taking an action.
