This section of the cube options dialog, will let you choose how to order your cube data fields. This options are set for the cube view and not for any particular dimension, which means that if you exchange dimensions from the heading area to the data area, your order settings will be respected.
You can sort the data either across the data area vertical or horizontal axis. Choose Horizontal Axis if you want the sort to be made horizontally and choose the vertical Axis if you want the sort to be vertical, or to sort the vertical grid of the data area dimension members.
There are three ways to sort the values:
- Hierarchy: The order shown is according the dimension members names and not their values. No ordering is applied to the cube data.
- Ascending: The values are sort from the smallest first to the greatest. If the dimension sorted is shown in hierarchical mode (see dimension options for more information), the hierarchies will be respected and each hierarchical level will be sorted independently from the other levels.
- Descending: It's as ascending, but ordered from greatest to smallest.
In multidimensional analysis, you must know against what you are going to sort. If you want to sort customers, it's not the same to sort against the sum of all products, or the sum of tennis products. You have to choose against what to sort. You can choose as many fields as needed.
You have three options to choose fields against what to sort:
- Default values: It sorts against the top level node of the dimension in the opposing axis of the data area.
- Cube values: This will let you choose an element from the opposing data area axis.
- All cube fields: You can choose to order data from any dimension member in the cube, either visible or not in the data area.
Since you can choose to sort with several dimension members values, you can use the First, Up, Down and Last buttons to order them. Use the < and > buttons to pass fields from one side to another.
You can right click on a dimension member and use the popup menu
ordering options directly from the data grid as a shortcut to this
dialog.
