There are four kinds of cube you can work with:
- Server cube: is a cube inside a Microsoft Analysis Services multidimensional database from Microsoft. Normally cube creation is done by database administrators personnel so it is not required to create new cubes. Consult your Microsoft Analysis Services documentation for more information.
- Local cube: it's an offline multidimensional cube that resides in your local hard disk or in any place in the organization's network. This files have .cub extension and can easily be created with the our cube builder application.
- View: one you have worked with a cube, (for example, given format or change its dimensions), is possible to save the cube view in a local file and later open it and start working with it. This options let's us open this kind of files. Their file extensions is .oxv.
- Web Address: thinking about users that don't have a direct connection to the organization network, is possible to leave multidimensional cubes in a specific web address, for example 'http://your.company.com/cubes/cube.cub' and open them directly from this application.
If your address end with a view extension file (.oxv), a view will be opened. If it finishes with a portfolio file extension .oxb, a portfolio will be opened, otherwise a cube will open. - Portfolio: A portfolio is a set of views or slides saved in a single file. Open a portfolio and then browse in each one of its pages.
- Recent cubes: Shows a dialog with all recent cube, views and portfolios opened.
Also, you can choose to open your cube directly or in the layout dialog.
