Dimension elements

In this section of the dimension options dialog, you can choose which elements from the dimension to choose.

If we are located in a heading dimension, you can hide the dimension so it doesn't appears anymore. If we want to show it again, you have to come back to this dialog and show the dimension in the upper section of the dialog. Use the Show dimension checkbox.

The left side of the dialog shows the hierarchy of the dimension elements and we can open each level to find more detailed elements. The right side shows the element or elements chosen to display.

You can use the following buttons to move elements from one side to another:

  • >: passes an element from left to right section. Is like double clicking an element of the left side
  • <: passes an element from right to left section. Is like double clicking an element of the right side
  • First: moves an element to the first place of the right section
  • Last : moves an element to the last place of the right section
  • Up: moves the selected element one place up in its right section
  • Down: moves the selected element one place down in its right section

if the dimension chosen is in the heading area, you can only choose one field to show and only the option Heading field is available. If the dimension is in the data area , the you can choose from the following options:

  • Explorer: By clicking on any of the dimension members, it will open to reveal more detail or close if it's already open.
  • N level hierarchy: shows the elements of the different levels of an hierarchical dimension. This option turns on the Level entry to choose the number of levels to show.
  • Field's list: this option lets you choose the fields you went to look at. It doesn't matter their level o hierarchy.
  • Final nodes: chooses the last nodes in the hierarchy of the element chosen in the right section.
  • Full hierarchy: chooses and opens all hierarchy levels and elements of the dimension. You can emulate by choosing a very big level in the n level hierarchy.
  • Only me: shows only the element chosen in the right side of the dialog
  • Only my sons: when you choose a node in a hierarchy, it shows this element and their sons of the next level. This option causes only to show the sons of the selected node.
  • Level's nodes : it permits to choose all elements within a specified level in a hierarchical dimension.

Options Explorer, N level hierarchy, Full hierarchy will show the dimension as a hierarchy. Final nodes, Only my sons, Field's list and Level's node will show them as a field list and Only me will show a single field. This is important to remember when you use formulas listed in the Values section.

You can click on any dimension member in the data area grid to show the popup menu, choose Dimension view option and select any option, this will be the equivalent of using this dialog tab.
