Cube view menu options

When you right click on a dimension cell and choose option: cube view, it will let you change the way you look at your data. It's important to understand the difference between choosing the horizontal or the vertical axis. All the calculations that will be made will be made against the other axis. For example, the left picture is the result of choosing the vertical axis (Customers), while the right picture is made choosing the horizontal axis (Class).

The cube view menu options are:

  • Values : Shows the cube data as it is stored in the cube.
  • % Total: Instead of showing cube values, it takes the value of a cell against it's dimension total and calculates the corresponding percentage.
  • % Parent: It's the same option as above, but the percentage gets calculated against the dimension member parent instead of the dimension total. If there 1,000 units sold, 100 in America and 50 in the US, 5% is the % total and 50% is the % parent.
  • Ranking: It orders the dimension values and place a one to the top values, a two to the second and so on. If the dimension is being shown as a hierarchy, the each level gets its own ranking.
  • Best: It shows the best final node of the dimension member shown. If you are looking at customers, it should show the best company for the Companies top node.
  • Increment: This options are best used when comparing again time ranges. Shows a member value minus the last one.
  • Decrement: Shows a member values minus the next one.
  • Difference: Shows the absolute value of Increment .
  • Year to date: Shows the actual cell value plus all of its previous ones.
  • Rolling sum: Takes the sum of a cell plus the last n cells (including it).
  • Rolling average: Takes the average of a cell plus the last n cells (including it).

The last option accessed from this menu gets checked.

These options are a shortcut to the Value Tab in the  Cube options dialog.
